Investor-owned utilities are more than just pipes and wires. The IUA’s members drive economic development by attracting new industry to the state, creating jobs and investing in our communities. Iowa’s strength in wind energy has already proven to be an asset in attracting new businesses to the state, and wind energy projects have brought new jobs and infrastructure to all corners of the state. The IUA’s membership combines to be the state’s largest taxpayer and one of the state’s largest employers, with high-quality jobs spread across the state. Members’ continued emphasis on renewable energy sources will bring more of those benefits. Iowa’s investor-owned utilities are active participants in their communities, partnering with local governments and nonprofit organizations to give back with donations, grants and volunteerism.

The IUA also joins the Iowa Economic Development Authority each year to co-host the SMART Conference, Iowa’s largest conference devoted to economic development.
