Why shouldn't the city just use the profits the incumbent utility is making to lower electric bills and help fund city operations?

It is extremely doubtful the city would be able to lower rates or have money left over for improvements, given all the costs and debt associated with a government takeover, especially today. Even if there were money left over, what sense does it make to fund swimming pools and community centers out of electric bills? That sounds like a hidden tax with little fairness or accountability. |
